Mechanical
Engineering Group Manager
The
Mechanical Engineering Group Manager will manage and advance the
engineering, documentation, and performance capabilities of the
Mechanical Engineering Group at Bluefin Robotics. The successful candidate will be
responsible for the development and deployment of processes,
technologies, and practices to support an anticipated growth in
production capability, while we maintain our traditional capability in
Science & Technology programs.
Bluefin’s customer base spans government, commercial,
academic and research entities, and the engineering processes employed
must effectively support this diverse client base and a variety of
product delivery scenarios.
Bluefin
designs, manufactures, tests and delivers Autonomous Underwater
Vehicles (AUV) and related technology for use in a variety of platforms
and scenarios. We are an
80-person company anticipating continual growth over the coming years.
Responsibilities
include:
- Managing
Bluefin’s Mechanical Engineering Group.
- Developing
and deploying processes, technologies, and practices that support
the varied needs of Bluefin’s projects, and in particular help us
to meet an anticipated increase in production demand while
retaining our capability in Science & Technology projects.
- Attracting
and retaining high caliber mechanical engineering staff.
- Serving
as a technical resource and subject matter expert for mechanical
engineering matters company-wide.
- Evaluating,
selecting and implementing state-of-the-art design and modeling
tools, techniques, and capabilities in the Mechanical Engineering
Group.
- Assisting in
defining, implementing and executing file management and control,
configuration management, engineering change control processes,
and document control.
- Ensuring a smooth
transition of mechanical engineering designs into Manufacturing.
Required
Experience and Qualifications:
- BS
required in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Marine
Engineering; MS preferred, with further preference given to those
candidates who have completed courses of study in two different
disciplines (e.g., MechE and NavalArch).
- Minimum
10 years of relevant experience.

Experience with virtual
modeling, configuration management, SolidWorks, SolidWorks vaulting,
interaction with Manufacturing, design for manufacturing, design to
cost, design reviews, documentation control, vendor and parts data
management systems, and ERP systems.
- Experience
managing an engineering group, including staffing, performance
appraisals, and project prioritization and task assignment;
experience outsourcing technical specialty work and contributing
to proposals.
Desired
Experience:
·
Experience working with undersea
systems, including pressure vessels, encapsulation of electronics, wet
cabling, seals, PBOF systems, marine materials, and corrosion control.
- Experience
with structural design, weight and hydrostatics, and marine
materials.
- Familiarity
with applied vehicle hydrodynamics.
- Experience working
on US Department of Defense projects, and with the related
standards and contract requirements.
Additional
Qualifications:
- US Citizen,
capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense Secret Level
Security Clearance.
- Comfortable
operating on boats; this role requires occasional day-trips at sea
learning and testing Bluefin Robotics systems.
Position
and Location:
This is a full time position that will initially be
located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Bluefin plans to move to a newly renovated facility located in
Quincy, Massachusetts in October 2010, at which time the location of
this position will also move to Quincy.
Systems
or Mechanical Engineer - Hydrodynamicist
This position
is for a hydrodynamicist to serve as a design contributor and subject
matter expert for hydrodynamics at Bluefin Robotics. The successful candidate will provide
hydrodynamics expertise across the company, while also serving in a
systems or mechanical engineering role on selected projects.
Bluefin

- Serve
as a design contributor and
subject matter expert for hydrodynamics company-wide.
- Identify
and implement state-of-the-art design and modeling tools,
techniques, and capabilities relevant to hydrodynamics for
underwater vehicles.
- Serve
in an additional relevant role on selected projects; for example,
dynamic control, mechanical engineering, or systems engineering.
- Interact
with project team members both within and outside of Engineering.
Required
Experience and Qualifications:
- MS
in Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering,
or related discipline.
- Minimum
ten years of experience, five of these in directly relevant
activities.
- Well-developed understanding
of theoretical and applied hydrodynamics including: hydrostatics,
hydrodynamics, resistance, propulsion, control surface design, and
seakeeping.
- Understanding of
and modeling capability in potential flow, viscous flow, and tools
including CFD.
- Experience working
with and interacting successfully in a team comprised of subject
matter experts from various technical and non-technical
disciplines.
- Experience with
MATLAB or similar scientific scripting/programming language.
Desired
Experience:
- Understanding
of dynamic control systems.
- Vehicle
design experience. For
example, mechanical engineering design, full vehicle design, or
experience as a technical lead interfacing with electrical,
mechanical and software disciplines.
- Ph.D.
in a discipline relevant to the role.
- Experience working
on US Department of Defense projects, and with the related
standards and contract requirements.
Additional
Qualifications:
- US

Senior Program
Financial Analyst
The Senior Program Financial Analyst shall support the
Bluefin’s Program Managers and resides within the CFO organization.
This position is an integral part of the program team and will provide
range of analysis and reporting on several contracts and internal
projects.
Responsibilities
include:
- Tracking and
managing the project’s ETC/EAC and providing variance analysis on
program progress and trends. Employs Earned Value techniques and
provide weekly and monthly progress and status reports.
- Work with
Program Managers to develop
and maintain the work breakdown structure
( WBS) that supports
contract financial requirements, reporting requirements, billing terms
, etc.
- Maintain data in
systems relevant to program financial setup, track , monitor and
report contract
modifications, incorporating them into the contract baseline to
maintain cost and schedule
baselines.
- Review invoices
and project cost information to identify discrepancies, issues and
or concerns relative to contract compliance
- Exercises judgment
within the parameters of Bluefin Policies and present
recommendations to senior management.
- Supports the
proposal team in preparation of cost volumes
- Support CFO
organization with DCAA audits
Required
Experience and Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of
experience in program support and or finance in a DoD environment
- Bachelor’s degree
in business or a related field
- Knowledgeable in
all Microsoft Office
products and Project Management software
- Ability to
demonstrate good organization, communication, problem-solving and
teamwork skills.
Additional
Qualifications:
- US Citizen,
capable of obtaining a
security clearance if needed
