Located
next to MIT's campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Bluefin is in
one of the most advanced technology capitals of the world. Here AUVs
are designed and assembled by leaders in AUV development.
Our mechanical and electrical facilities include a machine shop, a
mechanical assembly area that allows simultaneous work on several
vehicles in separate bays, a 10,000 psi pressure vessel for testing
sub-assemblies and small systems or sensors, a test tank, an
ultrasonic welding station, state-of-the-art electronics test and
assembly stations. We have the capability to encapsulating electronic
and other subsystems, electronic measurement tools. Our design is
supported by state of the art engineering packages.
Three separate computer networks supplemented with high speed
internet lines support a range of mechanical drafting and analysis
software, electronic design and testing packages, and provides our
software team with the infrastructure needed to develop and test the
software that endows our vehicles with full autonomy.
Our operations base is in the East Boston Shipyard next to Logan
Airport. Bluefin has a
dedicated 55’ research vessel with a 1-ton A-frame for testing
equipment at sea. Operations vans, vehicles, trailers and shipping
gear to move AUVs round out our capabilities for supporting vehicle engineering
tests (e.g., integration trials or evaluations of software/hardware
performance in real-world conditions).
Bluefin employees consider the sea their
"second office".
